Hoy día las carteras de cuero tienen status de ícono en el mundo de la moda; ha dejado de ser un accesorio, y es un elemento del cual ninguna mujer puede prescindir. A lo largo de los últimos 50 años las carteras de cuero han tomado una exposición tal; que el cuero representa un símbolo de status.
Un distintivo de estilo, que autorefleja la imágen de la mujer y lo que ella quiere proyectar hacia el mundo. No siempre fue así.... Un rápido repaso de la historia de las carteras revela sus humildes orígenes...
Representaciones de carteras de hace 2000 años, muestran simples sacos adornados con cuero crudo y portados generalmente por : Hombres !!!!
La primera evidencia de carteras como artículo o accesorio de moda llega en la época medieval, cuando mujeres de la corte portaban una bolsa colgada de sus cinturones llevando sus pequeñas cosas.
Esta bolsa, por lo general estaba suntuosamente adornada con joyas y gemas las cuales reflejaban su status en la sociedad. En el siguiente par de siglos, hubo muy poca evolución.
Las mujeres se vestían con una gran cantidad de capas de ropa y el entendimiento de la moda estuvo mas ligado a las faldas y enaguas dotándolas de generosos bolsillos para poder albergar todo lo necesario de ser transportado o llevado consigo.
Los bolsillos en el siglo XVII y XVIII estaban usualmente separados de los vestidos, los cuales se colgaban o bien de cinturones en cuero o bien ocultos bajo la falda. Es en el siglo XIX, que aparece el precursor de la cartera moderna he irrumpe en el mundo de la moda. Las amplias polleras y enaguas del siglo XVIII comienzan a usarse mucho mas livianas y breves resaltando la figura femenina.
Ninguna mujer a la vanguardia de la moda quería arruinar su imágen con bolsillos colgados del cinturón, y llenos de artículos abultados Entonces nacen las primeras carteras como artículo de moda.
El término Cartera de Mano nace a principios del siglo XX y esta ligado a valijas de cuero, portadas por el Hombre. Es en 1920 que emerge la cartera moderna ahora si llevada por la dama.
Este fué otro periodo donde tuvo auge la moda por las prendas livianas que estilizaran la figura femenina, y carente de bolsillos. Tambien fué un período donde se comenzó a acentuar el crecimiento de la independencia de la mujer donde la mujer comenzó a salir y viajar sola sin la necesidad de companía masculina. Es la cartera el accesorio de moda para resaltar el símbolo de su nueva independencia.
En 1950, los diseñadores comenzaron a dar nombre de celebridades a las carteras como la Hermes Kelly inspirada en Grace Kelly o la Channel 2.55 acolchada para usar colgada del hombro.
Hoy, comenzando el siglo XXI, hay una cartera para cada rol que la mujer desee y la imágen que desee proyectar.... Las carteras son desde oficinas ambulantes, contenedores de secretos de belleza, perfumes etc. hasta objetos de admiración en fiestas y salidas o como práctico accesorio en un fin de semana en el campo.....
Cuidados para Carteras de Cuero
Sin duda, los artículos de cuero ya sean abrigos, carteras u otro tipo de accesorios resultan una verdadera inversión ya que con ciertos cuidados, pueden llegar a durar muchos años y suponen una de las prendas más elegantes, tanto para la mujer, como para el hombre. Sin embargo, requieren una serie de medidas y cuidados para que no se estropee de manera prematura y así poder disfrutar de su prenda y/o accesorio de cuero por mucho tiempo.
Podríamos considerar las prendas de cuero como delicadas, ya que son fuertemente afectadas por los agentes externos, como la luz y el exceso de contaminación, por la sudoración del cuerpo y las diversas manchas, mucho más complicadas de eliminar. Si vas a adquirir una prenda de cuero, sobre todo si se trata de carteras de cuero cuida de elegirla bien; Es preferible que, aunque te cueste un poco más, te dirijas a tiendas especializadas en cuero y de vendedores reconocidos, para asegurarte que la calidad será la exigida.

Today the handbag has an almost iconic status in the world of fashion.
A practical accessory that no woman can do without, over the last fifty years it has also taken on the role of status symbol, a badge of style reflecting a woman's self-image and the image she wants to project to the world.
It hasn't always been so. A quick look at the history of the handbag reveals its very lowly roots.
Depictions of handbags 2000 years ago show simple pouches fashioned from crude leather, usually carried by men.
The first evidence of a handbag with any role as a fashion accessory came in medieval times, when wealthy women would
embellish the simple bag they wore on their belts to carry their necessities, with lavish embroidery and even jewels, to reflect their status.
Little was seen of any sort of fashion bag for the next few centuries.
Women wore voluminous layers of clothing and though fashions changed there was always plenty of room between skirts and petticoats to conceal ample pockets, which would have room for all the things you needed to keep handy and had the advantage of being attached securely to you.
Women's pockets of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries were usually separate from their dresses, made up of large fabric pockets suspended from a belt that tied underneath your skirts.
A slit in your skirts and petticoats allowed easy access to your pockets, so that whenever you needed your scissors or smelling salts they were right to hand. The contents of a woman's pockets then were quite similar in use to the contents of her handbag today.
Just like the contents of today's handbag, a woman's pockets were a private, almost mysterious domain, swathed in secrecy under her skirts.
It was at the turn of the nineteenth century that the reticule, the forerunner of the modern handbag came into fashion.
The wide skirts and hoops of the eighteenth century had given way to slim-line, even skimpy, high-waisted, figure-hugging dresses of filmy muslin.
No fashionable lady wanted to ruin the outline of her shapely figure by suspending pockets full of bulky items underneath her petticoats.
So the first fashion bag was born.
It was the 1920's that saw the first emergence of the modern handbag carried by women.
It was also a period of growing independence for women, when women could go out on their own and travel without a man or a servant to carry things for them. The handbag was at once a fashion accessory chosen to match an outfit and a practical symbol of their new independence,
women could now go forth into the world carrying all they needed themselves, self-reliant and fearless.
Handbags rose in importance as fashion accessories, until in the 1950's designers were giving names to the fore-runners of today's It bags, some of which are still sought after classics today, such as the Hermes Kelly bag, named after Grace Kelly whose favourite bag it was, and the Chanel 2.55 quilted shoulder bag, first produced in February 1955.
Nowadays, there is a handbag for every role a woman could wish to play, every image she ever dreamed of projecting.
Our handbags can be our portable offices, complete with laptop, phone and papers;
they can carry the beauty secrets that transform us from jet-setting professional to glamorous seductress; they are the trustworthy guardians of our identities, our pills and potions, even emergency rations.
